The golden rules of effective goal-setting and achieving for 2022

On each New Year's eve, everyone anticipates miracles and changes for the better. Ahead are 52 Mondays and 365 days to start life with a clean slate. However, we should know how to make ambitions and goals along the right lines to make them a reality.

To begin with, we must look back to the previous year's December, when we made goals for this year in the same way. How many of our midnight hopes came true? If over 80%, you don't need to read any further. We should go as far as to say that even if 50% of dreams come true, it is an excellent result. But why is it that less than half of the goals and wishes set to come true?

There are many reasons for that happening. However, let's take a look at the most common ones.

1) For something new to emerge, get rid of something old. That applies not only to old things, burdensome obligations, and promises once made to oneself. The past is filled with unrealized desires, dreams that are irrelevant today, and bad habits that we gained in the past.

2) Wishes never turned into goals with a step-by-step plan of action. There is a significant difference between a wish and a goal, although, at first glance, one may not see how these concepts differ.

3) Statistics say that only 8% of people do what they had planned to do on New Year's Eve. Everyone knows a person who created vision boards and dream roadmaps but did nothing about it. However, it is an entirely different thing when one attempts to move toward the goals, follow the plan, adjust it if necessary, and find the means, strength, and time to implement them.

4) Lack of strength and energy. We are all granted emotional energy to use, but as a bank account, there is only so much we can withdraw. Constant sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, and apathy are reasons to go to the doctor to be examined to rule out health problems. Avoid prolonged lack of sleep, increased physical exertion, unbalanced diet, and frequent stress. It is crucial to keep to a drinking regime to enrich the body with oxygen, the vital energy source.

One question comes to mind: Why is energy lost? First is unfinished business, as the brain is like a computer with too many programs open. At times, it "turns off'' or "slows down''. The same is with humans: multitasking exhausts us. That is why we should not take on too much, as it is enough to plan only three or four essential tasks for each day. Meanwhile, in daily planning, we should leave 30% of the time on force majeure. We can use these periods for rest, meditation, or recovery.

5) The way of thinking. It is handy to analyze what thoughts dominate our minds, as we are their by-product. Is it discontent, resentment, anger, or frustration? A person who truly understands the power of thoughts will never think negatively. By changing them, we can behave differently and reach new, unforeseen results.

Once the obstacles are eliminated, and the goals are defined, you can confidently begin your action plan. And there is no doubt: a new future lies ahead, as the first miracle of the coming year is a plan that will help create qualitative life changes.

To achieve more meaningful change, one must prioritize. A simple exercise helps - writing down answers to the following questions.

What does "happy life" mean to you?

What are you most proud of in your life?

What activities give you the most pleasure?

What emotions and states visit you when you do these things?

When your priorities are clear, you need to set goals. List the crucial areas of life and write from one to three goals in each section. Large tasks can be divided into separate stages and components. You can divide the individual subtasks by months and write them down in your diary for 2022. Just 10% of the time spent planning before starting saves 90% of the time needed to accomplish the tasks. Make sure also to plan vacations, birthdays of loved ones, and significant events.

By setting goals, you can achieve meaningful, measurable results. So, write the ones for the next year as concretely as possible. Goals should be achievable, realistic, environmentally friendly, and not dependent on external factors.

And, as everyone faces having to make hard decisions for which they will be held accountable - deciding is empowering, just as not deciding is paralyzing. That's why challenges have to be accepted. And right now, you can choose to add happiness to your life and gradually, day by day, achieve the best outcomes possible.
